This program is for parents who want to log in for their children and do not want to participate in a program themselves.
This program encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. Once the child is registered, they will receive a reading buddy(small plush animal). The parent can either keep track of books read by using the app or using a paper copy. Every book read aloud counts even if read multiple times. You can keep a record by Title and Author or strictly keep a number count. The library will keep track of their progress by moving a pawprint with the child's name on it on our 1,000 Books Display in the library's children's area. If families are okay with it, every time the child reads 100 books, you can come into the library and have your child's photo taken while holding a sign congratulating them on making another level. The library will post the photo on our Facebook page. When the child completes the program, the library will order a book in the child's name. There will be a nameplate on the inside cover of the book; the child will be first to check out that title. They will receive a certificate and another reading buddy. Have fun!
Welcome to Open Hearts Open Minds!
This year, we are excited to announce a new program that helps us stretch our comfort zone and brings us together for conversation. Our hope is to foster new friendships by participating in Open Hearts Open Minds Book Club. Join us in a safe space on the second Saturday of each month for this youth book club to discuss diversity. Each month, we will cover a different, nationally recognized diversity acknowledgment.
In this group, we will be reading picture books to our Pre-K kids ages (0-5). For kids ages (6-10) They can either read on their own or you can enjoy the book as a family. We will have several copies of each book available at the library beginning a month before the scheduled conversation date. On the second Saturday of each month, we will get together to talk about what we have read. Did the children enjoy it? Did you? Did you learn anything new? Did it make you laugh or cry? During the discussion, we will assemble an easy craft related to the books or let kids play while we talk. During our last get-together in July, we will end by having a potluck brunch.
